Just got back yesterday from “Whole Village” trip with Zeitgeist Movement Toronto/Ontario group. We learned quite a bit about living Eco style and had a great group discussion on how to do the same thing but implement more technology. I personally was quite intrigued with their decision making methods, called “The Formal Consensus Process”. Basically it was we talk about things until we all agree, or we don’t do it. However if it was a important decision they would go ahead with it unless two of the members strongly disagree, then they will not do it. They also have a choice to show their disapproval but not hold back the rest of the group from action. I find this is a wonderful system that, although it would take a enormous amount of time to come to action, would eliminate for the most part bad/ regretful decisions. Everyone is responsible in this type of system. Imagine a Federal government that works like this, co-operation and finding a solution that would benefit all would be the halmark of a politician and honesty a must to work in this system. Everyone’s vote would truly count.
I found that the food production could be more automated at the Eco-village and we discussed how we could start our own community that could work better. The members at the Eco-village were very helpful and informative. There were many methods and issues that they informed us about that we hadn’t thought about, but also many that could be improved on.
